AN INFLUX of tributes to the late pop star Liam Payne have been laid in his hometown of Wolverhampton on the day of his funeral.
The collection of photos, balloons and words of remembrance in the city has grown as Liam was laid to rest at a private funeral in Buckinghamshire today, November 20.
A side-by-side comparison of the display of tributes that sits in the bandstand in West Park, Wolverhampton shows more people across the city have continued to mourn the former One Direction star as he is laid to rest.
The 31-year-old died just over a month ago in October after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In a statement following his death, Liam’s family paid tribute to him, saying: “We are heartbroken.
“Liam will forever live in our hearts, and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul.
“We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.”
As well as his family, Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Tweedy, with whom he shares a seven-year-old son with Liam, was seen at his funeral today which was held at St Mary’s Church in Amersham.
Liam’s former One Direction band mates, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan were also seen mourning the loss of their friend, as well as many other celebrities who were close to him.
Floral tributes reading “son” and “daddy” adorned Liam’s coffin, with a small number of Liam’s fans local to the area lining the streets to pay their respects.
In Wolverhampton, dozens of bouquets of flowers, which have been arranged into the shape of a heart, have been left along with teddy bears, pictures of Liam and countless heartfelt messages from fans.
Barely an inch of the floor bandstand in West Park can be seen, a testament to the impact Liam had on the people of Wolverhampton and around the world.
