TWO councillors have completed an inspiring cycling challenge in Thailand to raise funds for the children’s hospital where their four-year-old granddaughter has faced open-heart surgery.

In 2019, Immy underwent her first open-heart surgery, a traumatic experience for Rachael and Alan Bailes and their entire family.

Thanks to the care provided by the hospital, Immy recovered remarkably well and began school just six weeks later.

However, the family received the heartbreaking news earlier this year that Immy will need to undergo another open-heart surgery.

Rachael said: “Immy is such a brave little girl, full of life and laughter.

“She refers to the BCH as ‘my hospital’ and has built a wonderful bond with the staff. We want to do everything we can to support the amazing team in the Cardiology Surgery unit that has done so much for her and countless other children.”

The Bromsgrove District councillors for Alvechurch took on a cycling challenge in Thailand, which started on November 8, 2024, and they covered 250 miles over five days.

The funds will help enhance the services that helped Immy and provide support to other parents who are anxious and in need of accommodation close to their children.

Alan added: “The climate was a significant challenge with temperatures reaching 40 degrees and high humidity, but it’s nothing compared to what these children endure.”

The Bailes family is determined to give back to the hospital, ensuring that it can continue to provide essential services and support to families facing similar challenges.

To support councillors Rachael and Alan Bailes in their fundraising efforts, donations can be made through their dedicated fundraising page at JustGiving.
