THE weekend’s downpours and further rain this week saw the cancellation of a number of local events including the popular annual North Worcestershire Bikeathon which usually raises thousands of pounds for leukaemia research.
* Hanbury Steam Fair has been cancelled this weekend due to waterlogging at the venue in Stoke Pound Lane, off Hanbury Road, Stoke Prior. It has now been rescheduled for October 31, November 1 and 2.
* Bromsgrove and District Farmers Club’s annual fun day and show which was due to take place this Sunday (September 14) at Upper Bentley Farm has been cancelled and will not be re-sceduled.
* Bromsgrove Fire Station’s open day, which was due to take place last Saturday (September 6) was cancelled at short notice. Crew manager James Bainbridge of Green Watch said unfortunately two days of sustained bad weather, combined with logistical difficulties centred around health and safety and the availability of some of the planned display events made the running of the open day impossible. The event will be rescheduled."
* North Worcestershire Bikeathon due to take place this Sunday (September 14) has also been cancelled.
Bikeathon organiser Nicole Harris said: “Our main concern is for the cyclists and considering the weather conditions I do not feel it is wise for the Bikeathon to take place.
“We had a look and many roads were closed. The car parking area is saturated and no cars would be able to park on the grass. Therefore I do not have any other choice than to cancel this year’s Bikeathon.”
