SIX mobile speed signs have been located in Wythall after concerns about speeding were raised at PACT (partners and Communities Together) meetings.

County councillor Wally Stewart arranged for the vehicle activated signs cameras, which are currently placed on Alcester Road, Silver Street and Peterbrook Road.

Police are backing the campaign with enforcement action by officers.

Local Policing Officer PC Lucy Thornton said: ”Speeding has been raised at many of Wythall’s PACT meetings, including the most recent meeting in April.

“The portable signs are ideal as they can be moved around different locations.

“Of course speed checks are unpopular with motorists, but speeding drivers place other road users, especially pedestrians, at risk.

“Speed is one of West Mercia Constabulary’s Seven Deadly Sins of motoring that can significantly increase the number of deaths, injuries and collisions occurring with the force, and road safety is one of our priorities.”

Councillor Stewart said: “Speeding traffic in Wythall is one of the community’s biggest worries. It was a major concern of local residents and I used local determined funds to purchase these signs, which can be moved to other locations.

“We are working closely with Chief Inspector Tony Love and Wythall Police, who will be mounting an anti-speed campaign, which will lead to prosecutions. I strongly hope this will prove to be a deterrent to speeding motorists in the area.”

The next Wythall PACT meeting is on Monday, September 22, at 7.30pm at Woodrush Community High School.
