FOR members of Fairfield WI the month of August heralded the annual produce show. This popular event welcomed entries from both WI members and villagers and included special classes for children of all ages.
Wendy Ahmed, a former WI member and one of the initiators of the idea, opened the show saying how delighted she was that this important event in the village calendar continues to be so well-supported.
Classes were many and varied from vegetables to fruit; flower arranging to photography, along with a wide range of craft and cookery items. This year the trophy for the overall winner, along with congratulations, went to Sheila Morris for gaining the most points with her numerous successful entries. Refreshments, a la the WI, always do a brisk trade jostling with tombola and side-stalls. The afternoon concluded with a whole range of exhibits from jam to flowers and prize-winning vegetables being auctioned off to eager bidders. Congratulations and thanks must go to Shirley Walker, our president, to each member of the show sub-committee and everyone who helped on the day, but most especially to Anne Griffin, our new show secretary, whose hard work and enthusiasm inspired the rest of the team to put on what has become such a successful and enjoyable annual village event.
