A TOUCHY-FEELY, hands-on garden is delighting residents of Regents Court care home in Bromsgrove.

The new sensory garden was officially opened by Bromsgrove MP Julie Kirkbride. It was made possible by a £5,000 grant from Worcestershire County Council.

The home’s administrator, Rose Maher, said: “It has made a huge difference to our residents who are able to help maintain the garden and help grow vegetables. “It’s great also for those who cannot see, who can instead touch and smell all the herbs and lovely grasses.”

Rose said impressive water features had been installed in the garden and the residents enjoyed a ‘beach day’, where they ate fish and chips served up in newspapers with knotted handkerchiefs on their heads, just like in the old days.

“It is all to do with entertaining and stimulating the residents,” said Rose.

The home caters for people aged 55 and over with mental health problems.
