STAINED glass windows depicting scouts clad in the uniform of the Evergreen troop had been installed in the south porch at St John’s church, Bromsgrove. Made by Peter Lemmon, of Bromsgrove, they were a memorial to Douglas Berwick, who had lived in the church’s shadow in Kidderminster Road and who had founded the Evergreens in 1928. He died four years ago.
THE Bromsgrove branch of the Royal Air Force Association held its annual Battle of Britain fishing contest at Hanbury Wharf. 189 seniors, 46 children and 27 teams took part.

BROMSGROVE’S oldest medic, Dr Arthur Rae, died suddenly at his home in College Road, aged 79. A keen sportsman, especially rugby, he was a past president of the Bromsgrove club. He had practised in the town for 34 years.
