BROMSGROVE Community Safety Partnership wants local groups to shed light on locations which will benefit from street lighting.
The partnership has been given funding from Worcestershire County Council in its continued bid to create a safer environment for everyone who lives, works and visits the district.
They are looking for suggestions from non-statutory groups in the Charford, Sidemoor, St John’s, Alvechurch and Waseley wards.
Deputy council leader, Councillor June Griffiths (Con-Alvechurch), the portfolio holder for street scene and community safety, said: “Thanks to the vigilance of the Bromsgrove Community Safety Partnership and local residents, overall crime and disorder has reduced dramatically over the last three years and we want to do all we can to improve the feel-safe factor in the areas that need it most, areas which may be suffering from anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and general nuisance.”
Nominations can be from registered charities, residents’ associations, youth groups, neighbourhood watches, community groups and voluntary organisations. The locations must be on an adopted road and/or pathway which is public land owned by the district, county or parish council, or housing association.
Closing date for nominations is Friday, September 19, and they will all be considered by a panel consisting of officers from the Community Safety Department, Bromsgrove District Council and representatives from West Mercia Constabulary.
The final decision however will be made by Worcestershire County Council and it is hoped the successful nominations will be lit up by April 2009.
Nomination forms are available by contacting Christopher Santoriello-Smith on 01527 881485, via e-mail to c.santoriello-smith@bromsgrove.gov.uk or from the website at www.bromsgrove.gov.uk/communitysafety
