THE new duel purpose church-cum-hall in Bracy’s Lane, Marlbrook, had been completed at a cost of £6,549, but a debt of £750 still remained. Capable of seating 140 people, it had been built by J and A Brazier, of Bromsgrove, on land fronting the Recreation Ground, acquired from Bromsgrove Urban District Council.
A MAJOR blaze at Red Cross Farm, Bromsgrove, the home of Mrs Albert Webb and her daughters Annie and Phyllis, destroyed 3,000 bales of new season’s hay and straw in a Dutch barn. The alarm was raised by neighbour Mark Giles, who lived in Red Cross Lane. Firefighters, who managed to prevent the flames from spreading to other outbuildings, had to draw water supplies from the hydrant at Whitford cross roads.
A SERIOUS shortage of medical staff could affect plans to expand hospital services in and around Bromsgrove. The stark warning was made by Professor Arnott, from Birmingham University, the guest at the annual prizegiving at Bromsgrove General Hospital Nurses’ Training School. But, he said, the post war ‘baby boom’ would ensure there would be adequate nurses to fill the vacancies, but that would be in five years’ time.
