IT'S hats off to this group of women, and the two men at the back, for their splendid array of headgear as they line up briefly for our weekly glance down Memory Lane.
The photo belongs to reader Janet Bartels, from Shropshire. She was was given the picture by her aunt, Cis Hancox, who used to live in Third Road, Wildmoor.
The photograph dates from around 1905 and it is believed that the woman in the centre front, holding the small child, is Rosa Day – the small child would be a younger brother. Rosa lived in Wildmoor and was the eldest daughter of George and Emma Day. She married George Fox in 1908 and Cis was one of their daughters.
Some members of the Wood family are almost certainly in the photo, possibly Nellie, who would have been about 12 in 1905 It is not known who any of the other women are, nor the occasion. As they are all so well dressed it might be a chapel outing.
The group appear to have been photographed in front of a viaduct or bridge. If anyone can add any more information, we’ll be happy to pass it on to Janet.
