IT’S crunch time at a Bromsgrove museum, which is set to celebrate the great diversity of British apples.
Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings at Stoke Heath is staging its first ever apple day, this Sunday, in partnership with the Array Fruit Farm in Bromsgrove.
Visitors will be able to explore the story of the apple from pollination to consumption and there will be numerous local apples on display; as well as a beekeeper and craft stalls.
A selection of apples grown at Array, in Perryfields Road, will be available to try and buy.
There will also be the opportunity to visit the museum’s own orchard to see the cider apple trees and children will be able to take part in fun themed activities and an apple trail.
Array’s participation is appropriate. It was established in 1900 and this month their farm shop celebrates its 50th anniversary. Much of the produce sold in the shop is produced on its 25-acre farm. This includes pears and 16 varieties of apple.
A selection of work by local children, who entered an Array Fruit Farm colouring competition, will also be on display.
At 2.30pm, there will be a harvest thanksgiving and dedication service in the iron Bringsty Mission Church.
