WIDE-RANGING measures aimed at further enabling Worcestershire County Council to monitor and effectively deal with speed on county roads have been given the green light by councillors.
The county council’s draft speed management strategy has been approved by the cabinet and members were also asked to note the council’s ongoing speed limit review.
The strategy aims to set appropriate speed limits on all county roads and encourage drivers and riders to travel at speeds appropriate to the environment and prevailing conditions. A monitoring system will be established to review and measure performance and ensure efficient flow of traffic throughout the county.
The strategy sets out Worcestershire’s policies for setting speed limits for A and B roads (urban and rural); unclassified roads; 20mph zones and residential roads. It also outlines the county’s policies for enforcement; signage; vehicle activated signs, engineering measures and road safety education on speed.
