Kevin Dicks, acting joint chief executive of Bromsgrove District and Redditch Borough Councils, was the guest speaker at the meeting. He was welcomed on behalf of everyone by Diane Ryan. It proved to be a lively and informative talk about Bromsgrove and its surrounding area and he touched on his new role, which takes in Redditch. A card from our twin, Blakedown WI, thanking us or our hospitality in July was read out. There was a thank you note from the organisers of the Tardebigge Fair and Show for the donation of a hamper filled with goodies. The raffle for it raised £67. There was a long list of forthcoming events, including the craft afternoon in October, organised by Monica Carden and Shirley Shephard, who will be demonstrating the skills learnt at Denman College and encouraging members to have a go. Members were encouraged to join the skittles and curling teams. The Christmas meeting, in December, was discussed, as was the entertainment. Michelle Stafford would like more volunteers to take part in this. Janet Williams was congratulated on being invited to join the Worcestershire committee for arts and crafts and Diane Ryan was thanked for arranging an interesting group of speakers during the year. The evening ended with a short quiz. New members are always welcome – meetings take place on the second Tuesday of the month at 7.45pm in Bentley village hall.
