CABINET members on Bromsgrove District Council have agreed to look again at the disabled parking issue prior to the budget meeting for next year.
At a meeting last Wednesday, the councillors endorsed a request by the scrutiny committee to look again at the removal of parking concessions for blue badge holders.
They are also going to look again at the funding for the Shopmobility scheme, alternative methods of payments for car parking and proposals for the regeneration of Bromsgrove town centre as a whole.
Councillor June Griffiths (Cons-Alvechurch), who is responsible for street scene and community safety, said: “Much has been said in the past over the Shopmobility scheme and disabled parking. We are very sensitive to the needs of disabled people in Bromsgrove.”
She said that the council had already approved a free extra hour of parking for disabled motorists this year, above the time paid for.
Jeff Edwards, treasurer of the town’s Older People’s Forum, said: “I was disappointed. It appears that nothing is going to be done for disabled people before next year.”
He said the council had missed the point over disabled parking. They want their permits back to remove the need to use the ticket machines. The same goes for the town’s older people.
Mr Edwards added: “The cabinet members didn’t even mention the pensioners who are also campaigning for permits, but we will not give up the fight.”
The blue badge holder re-evaluation is to be carried out as part of the budgeting process in December.
