PAUPER inmates at Bromsgrove workhouse could again look forward to regular weekly entertainments to help while away the long winter nights. Last year the ruling Guardians stopped it when the general public gained access to some concerts. However, some Guardians were dubious about the appeal of entertainment and suspected some members of the audience were only willing to forsake the warmth of their own quarters to brave the chill of the concert room in the hope of receiving a gift of some kind. Nonetheless, the Guardians agreed to hire a piano for the season.
ALL of the nave seats in Dodford’s new church had been allocated for the forthcoming consecration by the Bishop of Worcester, but a few others were still available to the general public. The Roe Buck inn, in Bromsgrove High Street, announced it was to run horse-drawn brakes to the event at a return fare of 1/-.
FOUR Droitwich lads, William Heath, William Leek, John Car Davies and John Pearce, appeared before Droitwich magistrates charged with throwing stones in Worcester Road. Each was fined 1/- with 3/3 costs. Arresting officer Pc Potter told the bench that they had been throwing at horse chestnut trees opposite Brine Baths Park forcing two women who had been sitting beneath to move.
