SAINSBURY’S is to unveil plans for a new 50,0000 square foot store at Bromsgrove Retail Park, in Birmingham Road, which will create more than 400 new jobs .

The scheme, which was exclusively revealed earlier this year in the Advertiser/Messenger, includes additional retail units and office space on the site.

Sainsbury’s is also proposing to foot the bill for improvements to the notorious Parkside cross roads junction.

The plans will go on public display as part of Sainsbury’s consultation, prior to submitting a planning application to Bromsgrove District Council.

The exhibition will be in the reception at The Dolphin Centre, on School Drive, on Friday, October 17, from 8.30am-5pm and again on Saturday, October 18, from 9am-5pm.

Following the exhibition, the plans will be put on display in the nearby Customer Service Centre.

During the two-day staffed exhibition, representatives from Sainsbury’s project team will be available to provide information, answer questions and record people’s views regarding aspects of the scheme, which features parking for over 500 vehicles, a customer restaurant and toilets.

The listed buildings facing onto Birmingham Road will be incorporated into the development, while the store will feature a modern glass exterior.

The new Sainsbury’s alone will create up to 400 full and part-time jobs.

Jamie Cowen, head of property development at Sainsbury’s, said: “We are currently compiling plans for a major development in Bromsgrove, which provides local people with a high quality new foodstore.

“We hope many local residents will visit the exhibition to give us their feedback, so we can finalise the scheme before submitting a planning application.”

Kevin Dicks, Bromsgrove District Council’s chief executive, said: “We are delighted about the interest shown by Sainsbury’s and hope that residents take the time to find out more. These are exciting times for the district as a whole and, if successful, Sainsbury’s could play an important part in our plans to build a better Bromsgrove for everyone.”
