JUNIOR RUGBY: Upton 14 Bromsgrove RFC 36.
BROMSGROVE were quickly into their stride.
The pack worked as a unit driving forward with purpose and gaining good distance.
Nick Freer then broke clear from the back and opened the scoring.
James Young slotted the bonus points.
The early stages were being won by Bromsgrove but they were having to defend their own line more than normal.
They engineered another opportunity for Freer to show his pace and he was not found wanting, diving in at the corner.
Upton continued to press forward and were rewarded for their efforts with a good break through the centre.
The scoreline remained unchanged to half-time which was more needed by Bromsgrove who were showing signs of uncertainty under pressure.
The team were clearly stung by the half time talk and came out firing.
Richard Hood took a short crash ball and was not going to be stopped by a brick wall as he bulldozed his way over.
Bromsgrove were now firing on all cylinders passing down the line and using decoys to progress down the pitch.
The next try was run in by Dan McNougher who was determined to put his name on the score sheet.
Upton were still playing and asking questions of the Bromsgrove defence but Freer completed his hat-trick scoring a breakaway try.
The next try was possibly the best team score with all aspects fitting together - strong work from the forwards, securing the ball and creating a platform for the backs to use the ball and Matt Dunton to cross the line.
Upton scored a late consolation try with an individual piece of skill and their success in converting made the margin seem closer than the 6-2 try count.
