Droitwich under-16s 5
Hereford 20
A poor start proved costly for Droitwich under-16s as they were beaten 20-5 at Hereford.
The Spa side conceded two tries in the first five minutes and it seemed that their lack of game time in recent weeks had taken the edge off their match focus.
Hereford did not convert either of these early scores and led 10–0.
Droitwich responded positively to this shocking start, executing a wheeled scrum to enable captain Sam O’ Brien to pick up and charge down the blind side where he crashed through to score a fine try near the corner flag.
The wind made kicking awkward throughout the game and the tricky conversion was narrowly missed by fly half George Bishop.
Droitwich knew they would have their work cut out in the second-half, facing a blustery wind.
However, they defended well and repelled several determined attacks from Hereford.
But after a series of scrums Hereford used a back row move to score near the posts. The conversion was added to make the score 17–5.
With about 15 minutes remaining the referee awarded Hereford a penalty in front of the posts which they duly converted to increase the lead to 20-5.
Droitwich were unable to come back as Hereford held on for victory.
