DENNIS Kelly’s electrifying new play, Orphans, opens at Birmingham Repertory Theatre on September 10, having just received its critically-acclaimed world premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Following its opening in Edinburgh, Orphans, a co-production between Birmingham Repertory Theatre Company and the Traverse Theatre, has been awarded a string of four star reviews and garlanded with both a prestigious 2009 Fringe First Award and a Herald Angel Award.
The play is a thrilling suspense story which takes its audience on a journey into a world just outside the front door.
In a modest house a couple are having a candlelit dinner. They are Helen and Danny, and are celebrating the fact that Helen is pregnant for the second time.
But their evening is brutally interrupted by the sudden arrival of Helen’s brother Liam, his T-shirt covered in blood.
As this gripping story unfolds, the truth of what has happened slowly reveals itself, and we discover just how far Helen and Danny will go to protect her brother.
One of the UK’s most exciting playwrights, Dennis Kelly has written an array of award-winning plays including After The End, Osama The Hero, Love And Money and Taking Care of Baby which played at The REP in 2007.
