BROMSGROVE Rovers safely secured a passage through to the first qualifying round of the FA Cup on Tuesday.
They beat Dudley Town 3-0 on Tuesday in a Preliminary Round replay with two goals from Josh McKenzie and one from Mark Owen.
Owen looks an inspired signing by boss John Snape, joining the club from Evesham last Thursday.
He scored two goals in the initial tie (see report page 76) and could be the catalyst to provide more goals this season.
Snape took a lot of positives from the 3-3 draw at Dudley on Saturday but criticised the teams' defending.
Rovers gifted Dudley two goals as they switched off in a game they should have won.
Added to a sloppy goal in the home game with Romulus which also ended in a draw, Snape knows the defending is one area he will need to address.
He said: "No disrespect to Dudley who played well, but it should be us going through to the next round.
"In the first half we made enough chances and missed enough chances to put the game to bed.
"But we gave them a mistake ridden goal to make it 2-1 and for their equaliser we went to sleep - there was nobody marking their player at the far post.
"We have conceded seven goals in three games which is not good enough and it is something I will be looking at in training this week and also to get another player in.
"We have to tighten up at the back, but saying that there were positives from the game, including Mark Owen coming in and getting two excellent goals."
He said: "People will look at the game and think yes we are two leagues above them so should win,but it's not as simple as that, as Saturday proved and with results elsewhere."
Snape was hoping to tie up a deal for a midfielder and defender from a higher league this week.
