Aldwinians 33 Droitwich 19
DROITWICH RFC missed out on the last 16 of the Powergen Vase after being beaten by Manchester side Aldwinians on Saturday.
Spa's hopes of progressing into the national stages of the competition were dashed after they failed to knock Aldwinians out of their stride. Both teams went into the match in good form, but organised Aldwinians edged ahead with two penalties. Matt Blackmore then levelled the scores with two accurate kicks.
However, a converted try left Droitwich chasing the game, despite Blackmore bagging a third penalty to make it 13-9 at half time. Phil Horton's sin-binning also made sure Spa were reduced to 14 players.
Spa stunned their opponents when Will Bolton stole in for a try in the second half.
Droitwich's advantage was short-lived, as the home side scored two tries.
Captain Nick Godfrey though pulled a try back when he won the ball at a lineout and drove over the line.
