Droitwich 5 Worcester Wanderers 8
Midlands Division Four West (South)
DROITWICH were edged out by Worcester Wanderers on Saturday, as their hopes of fourth place in the Midlands Division Four West (South) began to fade.
Droitwich were unable to repeat last week's excellent performance, which knocked Worcester out of the North Midlands Shield.
Instead Spa's Worcestershire opponents were able to get some revenge by scoring a second half winning try.
In a scrappy game where neither side could take the upper hand for long Droitwich enjoyed a better start.
Steve Poke spotted a gap at the back and chipped a well judged kick forward and Will Bolton took advantage by scoring.
Chris Hooper unfortunately missed the conversion.
However, Droitwich could not build on their fine start and Worcester began to hit back.
Spa's opponents lacked any cutting edged and could only score one out of five penalty chances to make it 5-3 by half time.
Both Droitwich and Worcester were lacking ideas in the second half.
The game swung in Worcester's favour when Droitwich were reduced to 14 because of injury.
Spa seemed to be holding out for victory when Worcester won a line out and a Wanderers winger touched down.
l Droitwich go to struggling Harbury, who were thumped 50-0 by Stourbridge Lions over the weekend, on Saturday, March 11, aiming to bounce back in style on.
Victory would go some way to enhancing Droitwich's chances of finishing fourth in the table. Spa lie in fifth place and trail Berkswell and Balsall by four points. Droitwich have an advantage with a game in hand.
