Droitwich Spa 28 Stourbridge Lions 12
DROITWICH warmed up for the new season by taming Stourbridge Lions in a friendly game at the Glynn Mitchell Memorial Ground on Saturday.
Spa came from behind to win the game that was affected by gale force winds.
The visitors had the advantage of the blustery conditions in the first half and pounced on an error by the home side to take the lead early on.
Craig Burgess' strong running allowed Jon Andrews to pull a try back, but Stourbridge took the lead again with a second touch down.
The home side came out guns blazing in the second half and Phil Horton won a line out and set up Nick Godfrey, who powered his way over the try line.
Leon Hopkins beat Stourbridge's defence for pace to score, before Sean Walker added another try.
Godfrey then polished off Stourbridge with the game's final try.
Captain Dean Goddard said: "The conditions obviously made it a game of two halves. But we stuck to our game plan and things went well. Hopefully this will stand us in good stead for the league campaign."
Droitwich will be aiming to start Midlands Division Four West (South) with a testing trip away to Evesham this Saturday (3pm start).
