Evesham 8 Droitwich 27
Midlands Division Four West (South)
DROITWICH got the Midlands Division Four West (South) off to an emphatic start with a powerful display against Evesham on Saturday.
Spa were in fine form and carved out a host of try scoring chances as they made a rip-roaring start to the 2006/2007 campaign.
The visitors opened the scoring with a penalty but Droitwich hit back when Jim Richardson powered over for a try, which was converted by former Stourbridge and North Midlands RFU side captain Duncan Hughes.
This sparked Droitwich into life and Ben Cotterell completed a flowing attacking move to grab a second try.
Richardson added a third try before the home side replied with a touch down.
In the second half Droitwich maintained their tight grip on the game and Nick Godfrey and Phil Horton dictated play.
Sean Walker then put the icing on the cake when he broke through the home defence to grab a touch down.
Head coach Dan Protherough was pleased to see his side grab a win.
He said: "The backs division is quite different the one that played last season so it was a good result against Evesham.
"The team is still gelling so it was a great performance.
"We didn't know a lot about them so to score a lot of tries was also very good. We could have scored more so I was pleased with the creativity, too."
