ONCE again we have had an invite to fight the Foyer homeless project at Aston Field and attend a meeting.
I am sick of seeing a letter in the paper starting with the words – ‘We are not against it but’... Of course you are!
I am sorely tempted to put a great big red ‘YES’ in my window as I am amazed that people in my community think that homeless means criminal, alcoholic, druggie.
Do they not realise that drugs can be bought and sold anywhere in this town? Have they not noticed that crimes are often committed by people living outside the area? That drinking is not exclusive to youths? Do they not understand that people become homeless for many reasons but it does not make them aliens!
What became of being Christian hearted and not steriotyping? Did you all complain about the off-licence before it opened? Was that not going to bring the riff-raff to our nice area? And has it?
If my children should be in the unfortunate position of being homeless let's hope that there is somewhere they could go where people care about their wellbeing, where they are not labelled and treated as an underclass.
Come on Aston Fields, show a bit of charity not small mindedness.
Welcoming Aston Fields
