I WONDER whether there is an opticians based within the new Droitwich Medical Centre facility?
If there is, can I suggest both the architect and local planners pay them a visit!
Is it just me that believes that the external design of this building and the materials used would be more at home inside a perimeter security fence, with watchtowers looking down and security guards patrolling the grounds!?
Now don’t get me wrong I am sure the new facilities within this centre are fantastic, and great for the town, but the redevelopment of this site with such a carbuncle feels like an opportunity missed.
Why could the architect and planners not work together more effectively to build something more in keeping with the heritage areas of Droitwich and set a new benchmark for this part of the town centre?
I am sure someone will leap to the planners defence and point out that the buildings that previously stood on this site were not much to look at but of course that is the very point. With a blank canvas following it’s clearance its seems the best the architect and planners could come up with is something visually akin to a prison facility.
Nought out of ten for imagination and architectural sensitivity!
