THE front page article ‘Far too rich for parking permits’ in last week’s Advertiser/Messenger has at last brought to light the reason why pensioners and disabled have been targeted so heavily in recent years in Bromsgrove.

Steve Martin’s attitude toward them is disgusting. I consider he is unfit for purpose and should be removed from a post that controls both concessionary parking and the green bin collection. Pensioners and disabled people rely on the green bin collection (to be discontinued next month) as unloading at refuse centres is difficult for many of them.

I suspect I am one of very many, when I say that to see my rates being used to pay people with such views makes me very angry.

The richer they are the more rates and taxes they have paid over much of their lifetime. This allows the council to grant parking concessions to Mr Martin at his place of work.

I am glad to see the council do not agree with his outburst, but his remarks were not ‘an error of judgment’ as stated by Tony Beirne. I am sure Mr Martin meant every word.

The error of judgment has been made by the council in employing him in a post so alien to his beliefs.

If the council is unsure where to place him after this ‘error of judgment’, may I suggest bin collection or landfill sorting.

Frustrated, Finstall
