BARNT Green managed to beat the weather and get the better of Leamington Spa in a drawn contest at Arlington Avenue while their Birmingham League title rivals could only watch as the rain fell down,
Fortunately for the Green, the weather relented sufficiently in South Warwickshire for a rain reduced 34 overs affair to commence.
The Spa side had no hesitation when inviting the Green to bat first, but the move soon misfired.
Instead of struggling in the wet conditions, the Green managed to muster an impressive 215 for seven thanks to some excellent batting from Amrinder Brar with 62, Ben Chapman-Lilley who cracked 52 while Rheedyi Amin added another 44.
Oxfordshire allrounder Oliver Currill made the most of conditions by claiming five for 46 off 11 overs while the ageless former Warwickshire skipper Neil Smith continued to turn back the years by bagging two for 40 with his off-spinners.
Leamington could only manage 20 overs back in reply before further rain arrived, but by that stage, enough overs had been played to constitute a result.
Harrison Smith struck top score of 33 in a Spa total of 100 for four with the accurate Andy Sutton and Rheedyi Amin sharing the wickets to fall.
The Green's winning draw enables them to cement second place in Birmingham League Premier One but they still remain 27 points adrift of leaders Smethwick, while moving 14 points clear of third in the table Moseley.
Kidderminster's clash with Knowle and Dorridge was abandoned without a ball being bowled while Halesowen's home clash with Moseley suffered a similar fate.
Barnt Green bid to continue their good form when they host Halesowen at Cherry Hill while Kidderminster travel to Shifnal.
Himley's trip to West Bromwich Dartmouth in Premier Two was also declared a washout while Bromsgrove's contest with Dorridge was abandoned as well.
Himley host high flying Harborne this Saturday while Bromsgrove have a tough trip ahead when they face leaders Wolverhampton.
