A KIAN Ryley goal was the difference between Bromsgrove Sporting and Solihull Moors on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the result meaning Sporting's unbeaten pre-season run came to an end, there were plenty of positives to take out of the match against National League opposition.
The Rouslers had a couple of chances early on with captain Luke Rowe seeing a free-kick saved before Aksum White had a cross-shot claimed by keeper Laurie Walker.
Solihull's James Gale unleashed a pair of strikes on Charlie Price's goal inside the final 15 minutes of the half with one smartly saved and the other going narrowly wide.
The hosts, watched by 510 fans at the Victoria Ground, almost got the second half off to the perfect start but Aaron Bishop's shot was cleared off the line by a defender.
But Solihull ramped up the pressure as Olly Tipton put an effort just wide and former Bromsgrove loanee Tyler Bruck had a shot blocked.
The opener came 61 minutes in when Finn Howell, who was also on loan at Sporting last season, put a cross into the box that found an unmarked Ryley who scored via the post.
Four minutes later Price saved again before Isaac Adegoke almost brought Sporting level in the 74th minute but his attempt from distance was kept out well by Walker.
Tahvon Campbell's effort was ruled out for offside for Solihull.
Late on Bromsgrove's Jamie Meddows found Harry Crook in the area with a pinpoint pass but appeals for a penalty were ignored after he hit the ground following a tackle.
Sporting previously beat visitors Birmingham City under 21s 3-2 last week with a double from a trialist and Reece King on target.
They were three goals up in the first half with Meddows providing a trio of assists before City hit back with two in the second period.
It was Sporting's fifth pre-season win from as many games.
Meanwhile, attacker Meddows and midfielder Zac Powell have both signed contracts for the upcoming campaign after impressing in pre-season.
Manager Paul Smith said: “From my short time with these youngsters I’ve been very impressed with their quality and attitude.
“This is the highest either has played in men’s football and it will be, in my opinion, just the beginning for them.”
Sporting, who visit Boldmere St Michaels on Tuesday night (7.45pm), complete their pre-season friendlies at home to Southern League Premier Division South side Marlow on Saturday (3pm).
