BROMSGROVE Sporting bowed out of the Emirates FA Cup third qualifying round after losing 2-1 to National League South side Chelmsford City.
The higher-ranked hosts went ahead in the 16th minute via a Jordan Greenidge header before Kane Crichlow doubled the advantage 19 minutes into the second half.
Substitute Shaquille Leachman-Whittingham scored in second-half added time but, despite a spirited finale, Paul Smith's men ultimately fell short last Saturday in front of 808 fans.
Keeper Charlie Price kept out Chelmsford skipper Charlie Ruff's back-post effort in the third minute.
The Rouslers' first chance came five minutes later as a good ball from Theo Robinson found Harry Crook whose looping shot went just over.
At the other end Chelmsford's Osman Foyo hit the side-netting and was denied by Price.
The deadlock was broken via a headed effort from close range by Greenidge with several Bromsgrove players feeling aggrieved a foul was not given in the build-up.
Foyo had another strike saved by Price in the 33rd minute while four minutes later he put a one-on-one effort over after beating the offside trap.
Robinson had a shot saved by Chelmsford's Ted Collins six minutes into the second half.
Moments later Foyo threatened again with a shot that hit the woodwork and the ball struck the other post without crossing the line.
Price kept out Crichlow on the hour but the Chelmsford attacker swooped four minutes later as he finished off a decent move with an authoritative drive from inside the box.
Bromsgrove then enjoyed their best chances.
Jamie Meddows put a 67th-minute shot over before Ryan Snape curled a free-kick from 30 yards narrowly wide.
The first minute of added time saw Sporting captain Luke Rowe's fiercely-struck shot kept out by Collins with the Bromsgrove goal coming two minutes later.
Chelmsford's keeper saved an initial strike but Leachman-Whittingham slotted in the rebound from close range.
Sporting applied more pressure but exited the competition at the same stage as last year and to the same opponents.
After Tuesday's Worcestershire FA Senior Cup tie at Droitwich Spa, Sporting visit Chasetown in the FA Trophy third qualifying round on Saturday (3pm).
Bromsgrove lost 2-1 at home to neighbours Redditch United in Southern League Premier Division Central last week with Reece King scoring.
