BROMSGROVE Sporting paid for missing chances as lower-ranked Chasetown knocked them out of the Isuzu FA Trophy third qualifying round.

The prolific Jack Langston's 63rd-minute goal at The Scholars Ground was the difference between the sides last Saturday, extending the Rouslers' dismal record in the competition to just one match won in seven seasons.

The opening stages were devoid of any clear-cut chances before the 34th minute saw Bromsgrove forward Charlie Wragg volley the ball into keeper Curtis Pond's grasp.

Two minutes later the Walsall loanee had a golden opportunity but shot straight at Pond from an inviting one-on-one position before Harry Crook put an effort over the bar.

Langston and Tom Unwin had shots blocked for the Northern Premier League Division One West hosts early in the second half before Sporting were awarded a 56th-minute penalty.

After Pond brought down Crook in the area he was tasked with keeping out Walsall loanee Wragg's spot-kick which he did after a tame attempt down the middle was saved by his legs.

And Bromsgrove were made to pay seven minutes later as Langston notched up his eighth goal of the season with a strike from close range.

Langston almost doubled his tally in the 71st minute but Sporting keeper Charlie Price was equal to his strike.

Sporting substitute Kieran Cook had a fine free-kick tipped over by Pond three minutes later.

The visitors' Callum King-Harmes had a cross headed wide by Reece King with two minutes remaining while Chasetown had a penalty in the sixth minute of added time.

After Joe Thompson was felled in the box by Price the two faced off again from 12 yards but the shot was dragged wide in front of 406 fans.

Sporting: Price, Palmer, White, King, Roberts, Patterson (King-Harmes 84), Thomas (Newell 69), Rowe, Crook (Cook 69), Wragg (Leachman-Whittingham 69), Meddows (Robinson 69).

Previously, Sporting won 3-1 at lower-ranked neighbours Droitwich Spa in the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup last week.

The visitors led at the interval thanks to Theo Robinson's 12th-minute goal but an improved second-half display from the Saltmen saw Perry Moss equalise with 19 minutes remaining.

But the Rouslers' place in the next round was assured with late goals from Kieran Cook and substitute Shaquille Leachman-Whittingham.

Fifth-from-bottom Sporting head to mid-table Banbury United in Southern League Premier Division Central on Saturday (3pm) and then host early high-fliers Kettering Town next Tuesday (7.45pm).
