BROMSGROVE CC skipper Mark Evenson has described Saturday’s Birmingham and District League Division One promotion showdown as the club’s biggest game in a decade.

Promotion from Birmingham and District League Division One is at stake for the Boars this weekend, but they are locked in a three-way tussle with Shrewsbury and Stratford-Upon-Avon.

The St Godwald’s Park side, who visit Old Hill, have their fate in their own hands as they currently occupy the second promotion spot.

But with league leaders Shrewsbury hosting Dorridge and Stratford welcoming Cannock, skipper Evenson admits his side are the ones faced with the toughest fixture.

He has urged his players, however, to stay focussed on their own task rather than worrying about other teams.

Evenson said: “On paper we have got the toughest draw but it is the sort of side you have to beat if you are to go up or if you are to play in the Premier Division.

“The times we have got totals of 160 to 170 we have gone on to win the game, so we know the basics that we have got to do.

“At the end of the day, the important thing is that we take care of our situation and Stratford and Shrewsbury will take care of theirs.

“It has been in our hands for the last four or five weeks and that is the way we want it to be.”

Evenson hailed his team’s efforts in taking the race to the final day of the season, but admitted the success has taken him by surprise.

“Usually we are on the other end of it, scrapping against relegation.

“It is definitely the biggest game I’ve been in at Bromsgrove and that is in 10 or 11 years.

“At the start of the year there is always a level of expectation.

“We kept the same side that did so well at the end of last season, so there was an inkling that we could do something.

“But we have won games that we had no right to win.”

Bromsgrove are expected to be at full strength for Saturday’s game.
