DROITWICH driver Richard Hay enjoyed further Caterham Eurocup success when he and his team-mate Clive Richards raced at Donington Park.

West Sussex-based Richards, with whom Hay claimed Eurocup championship victory last season, got the event off to a good start when he claimed second place, despite gearbox problems, in his individual race behind the car of Londoner Nick Payne.

Race two, the start of which was delayed by fog, provided a tantalising battle for victory between Hay and Kurt Hoffmann, with less than a second separating the two cars for the duration.

Hoffmann led for a lap but Hay broke Payne’s day-old lap record after re-passing and put 1.9 seconds between their cars by the end. It was Hay’s second race win of the season.

Hay led Lee Cunningham all the way to the pit stops in race three, with Hoffmann well in touch in third spot.

So well in touch, in fact, that once Hoffmann had pitted to hand over to Payne, their Acre Jean CSR was able to close down the Hay-Richards car within five laps and take the lead with six laps to go.

Payne crossed the line nearly 10 seconds ahead of Richards.

With only three races remaining, scheduled for the French circuit of Magny-Cours in October, Hoffmann and Payne lead the standings by a single point from Hay and Richards.
