On one of the hottest days of the year, Droitwich Ladies firsts hockey team played a friendly match against Harborne Ladies and lost 5-2 At half-time the score was 3-1 to Harborne and their dominance continued with the final score 5-2.

Goals for Drotwich were scored by Lucy Hine and Louise Warrilow.

Captain Roseanne Brookes said the team pulled together in working hard and in the second half the standard of play was much better from Droitwich.

Gemma Sparkes, usually an outfield player, was in goal and made some great saves.

Julie Haller, who usually plays for Drotiwich Ladies seconds, was voted player of the match, demonstrating real enthusiasm and competitiveness on the pitch.

League matches for the three ladies teams start on Saturday, September 27, and on September 4 for the four mens teams.

There is also a very strong junior section with teams ranging from under 10s to under 18s and also a Saturday Badgers side.

The club is based at Salwarpe Valley Pavilion, adjacent to the Astroturf, where all home games are played.

It is a friendly, family orientated club, with a very active social calendar and is always happy to welcome new members.

Training is on Wednesday evenings: 6.30pm – 7.30pm for juniors, 7.30pm – 8.30pm for seniors. Droitwich Men's seconds played a Kings Heath team who were two leagues above them Droitwich got off to a flying start with two early goals, captain Simon Baines scoring for the second week running.

But Kings Heath fought back, putting on the pressure, eventually winning with a final score of 6-2.
