Barnes also broke the 27-year-old club 50 mile TT record after a storming ride in the Holme Valley Wheelers race in Yorkshire.

He beat Greg Kinsell’s 1981 time by a mere two seconds, recording a time of 1-47-49, despite mechanical problems.

Dave Wood also rode the Andover event and rode strongly to finish in a time of 22-25.

Development squad rider Josh Papworth opened his cyclo-cross account for the season with an easy win in the second Rugby Floodlit event last Wednesday evening.
