ROVERS boss Rod Brown believes he may have the new Nathan Lamey on his hands - in the form of striker Luke Reynolds.

Reynolds has already managed three goals in Brown’s first two games back in charge at the club, including a well-taken strike in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over AFC Sudbury.

And Brown believes the former Kidderminster Harriers forward is capable of emulating former Greens favourite Lamey, who hit 32 goals in the 2006/07 season to help them to promotion.

The recent purple patch in front of goal has seen summer signing Reynolds’ tally shoot up to four in just five starts.

Brown said: “Nathan had the confidence to think he was going to score every time and I think Luke has that.

“He makes clever runs, he is a lot stronger than I thought and he wants to score goals.

“I know he is still not quite where he needs to be but I think that applies to all of the players.”

Despite hailing his quality in front of goal, Brown believes there is more to come from Reynolds.

The manager also revealed he is still looking to bolster his front line, after already adding Hednesford striker Reece Styche to his squad.

Discussions had taken place with ex-Rover Gary Hay, although he has decided to remain with British Gas Business Premier Division outfit Evesham United.

Brown added: “He (Reynolds) was out of sorts and I thought Jermaine (Clarke) didn’t play well either.

“I said to them at half-time I was looking to make a change early and then Luke scored a goal of the highest calibre.

“He has scored three goals in two games and I believe he is a 20-goal a season man.

“What I need is someone else who is going to get me 10 or 15 as well.

“I feel I might still need a striker and a midfielder.

“Gary (Hay) came to me and I put seven days in to follow the proper procedure.

“But he’s not leaving Evesham as he has some sort of tie up and he is a loyal guy.”

With Saturday’s scheduled game against Dunstable cancelled because of the Bedfordshire team’s extended run in the FA Cup, Rovers are without a league fixture until the home clash with Nuneaton Town on October 11.

Brown admitted a free weekend will give much-needed time to work with his squad in training, but he is hopeful of bringing a fixture forward to fill their other gap on Saturday October 4.

He said: “I am glad I am having a gap this weekend, because it gives me chance to continue working on the players’ fitness.

“But I am not too happy about having one two weeks in a row, so I have asked the chairman to try and bring a game forward.”

The only minor injury concerns for Rovers are Dennis Pearce, Rapinder Gill and Keenan Meakin-Richards, who all emerged from Saturday’s game with slight hamstring trouble.

The Greens’ next scheduled game is away at Coventry Sphinx in the second round of the Birmingham Senior Cup on Tuesday October 7.
