Solihull 10
Bromsgrove RFC 16

BROMSGROVE’S victory was far more emphatic than the scoreline suggested.

Due to confusion over which ground Solihull were actually playing at, the Boars turned up late with limited time to prepare.

But this did not distract the team who were galvanised and determined to put their opposition to the sword.

From the start Bromsgrove dominated. The forwards were powerful in the tight scrummage and immaculate in the line out.

Strong defensive work prevented Solihull from establishing any cohesion.

Bromsgrove’s back row were disruptive and it did not take long before Solihull infringed and were behind three points from a well struck penalty by Ben Copson.

Duncan Roke returned at full back and marshalled his threequarters well.

They possessed an incision lacking from the previous week and a superb combination of back play set up a line out deep into Solihull’s 22. The lineout ball was collected and driven.

When Solihull collapsed the maul, Bromsgrove had the ability to regroup and then score when flanker Drew Harper went over near the corner. The conversion was missed.

Solihull could only manage a well struck penalty before half time, to make the score 8-3 to the Boars.

It was more of the same in the second period. The Boars dominated the tight scrummage, controlling both their own ball and applying the wheel to good effect on Solihull’s put in.

The back row, ably assisted by Lee Ward at scrum half, disrupted Solihull’s possession.

Town’s second try was set up by a super sniping run from full back Duncan Roke who was eventually stopped short of the tryline.

Dan Quinn was on hand to pick up and drive over from close range. The conversion was missed.

Bromsgrove benefited from the referee promoting a fast pace, by not allowing the ball to become too embroiled on the floor.

Solihull did manage a try when a high hanging kick was allowed to bounce and landed favourably for the winger who collected and ran in under the posts.

The try and conversion put Solihull within a score, trailing 13-10.

However, Bromsgrove managed to widen the gap with a well struck penalty by Copson and the game ended with the Boars worthy winners.

Bromsgrove host Burton at Finstall Park this Saturday (3pm).
