HEAD coach Ross Baxter hopes his Bromsgrove RFC side can become entertainers as well as winners, following their brilliant start to the season.

The Boars made it three wins from as many games in Midlands Division Two West on Saturday with a 23-15 victory over Burton at Finstall Park.

The impressive sequence leaves them on the brink of hitting Baxter’s early season target of four victories from their opening four fixtures, with the next game coming at home to Camphill this Saturday.

Baxter admits his side are still grinding out results, although he and backs coach Duncan Roke have been working to try and expand their game.

And despite a dream start to the season he has called on his players to show more of a killer instinct.

He said: “We stripped to basics and worked inside out, and the results are there in terms of the forwards delivering loads of ball. But even the games we are dominating are close because we are not scoring enough points.

“We need to put teams under real pressure and start to finish them off.”

Baxter says he is not surprised by his team’s 100 per cent start, and thinks it could give them a chance to be in the promotion picture in the second half of the season.

However, he admits they need to improve on last season’s away form, citing the clash at Stratford-upon-Avon on October 11 as a key fixture.

Baxter added: “We set a four game target and we thought if we performed well they were four achievable wins.

“We have probably still got a little more in reserve to try and get the fourth win this Saturday.

“The home games presented us with an opportunity and it was important for us to take advantage of that.

“The Stratford game will really present a challenge because our achilles heel last season was really our away performances.

“What we need to do is imbed the same attitude as we have had for home games.

“We want to be in a position to give ourselves a chance to be in the mix at Christmas.”

After an initial struggle in the first-half of last season, the Boars’ form picked up and they were able to avoid relegation.

Now they appear to have carried their end of season form into the new campaign, and Baxter reckons he has seen a change in focus from his players over the last six months.

He said: “It took six months for the players to buy into the ethos of a team.

“Now we have really got a focus in terms of training and making sure they go out and deliver everything they have got.”
