Droitwich Ladies were left disappointted as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat to a Reddtch side that had suffered relegation at the end of last season on Saturday.
Droitwich’s defence held strong, until conceding a penalty flick at the end of the first half, which was converted into a goal.
Redditch continued to put the pressure on in the second half and scored a fine second goal, bringing the final score to 2-0.
Droitwich’s payer of the match, Lorna Davidson, said: “Redditch played well, but our defence showed cohesion and effective communication, preventing them from scoring more goals.”
Droitwich Spa Men’s second XI got off to a flying start to the season with a 4-2 victory against Wednesbury.
Simon Baines scored a hat-rick in the first 20 minutes to give the home side a comfortable lead, before striker Luke Wicks added another.

Kate Eveleigh delivered a brilliant performance in her first game back this season scoring a cracking goal from a short corner.
Overall it was a great team effort from Droitwich with youngsters Jenny Hewlett and Sam Wakelam adding to the score line.
In the Midland Regional Hockey Association West Midlands One, Droitwich lost 3-1 at Pershore.
