BROMSGROVE Ladies Basketball Team hosted Shropshire Warriors at the Ryland Centre and came out 75-47 winners, their first home victory.

The Bears came out strong in the first quarter and led 19 - 13, with Millie Parchment and Sarah Wellbourne scoring on the free throw line, five times between them.

They went into the locker room at half time 38 - 21 up, with Simmone Annon and young Becky Taylor making their presence known on the court.

The second half continued to be dominated by the Bears, with Danielle Caulwell, Kelsie Jonson and Cat Yang's speed playing a vital factor down the wing on the fast breaks.

Sarah Wellbourne continued to prove an attacking threat and came away with a personal best of 23 points.

Youngster Millie Parchment,14, second top scored with 17 points followed by Dawn Hall with 12 points.

l The Bears hold basketball sessions on Thursdays at Parkside Middle School, Bromsgrove for under 12s mixed boys and girls On Fridays, sessions are held for girls ages 13-18 from 6-7.30pm and lads and dads 8-9pm at the Ryland Centre, Bromsgrove.

*Becky Taylor from the Bears has been chosen for the England under 15 development squad, despite being only 13.

The South Bromsgrove High School pupil’s potential was first spotted by basketball coach Dawn Hall who runs a coaching school with her sister Carys visiting various schools in the Bromsgrove District.

Taylor, who is already over six feet tall ,was first asked to join the Bears and then the Birmingham A’s under 14 national league side.

She was then chosen to join the West Midlands Basketball Squad to play in a regional tournament at Lilleshall in October last year.

When taking part in the tournament, she was spotted by England and asked to join the national development squad that trains throughout the year and will take part in a European tournament in the summer.
